Dr. Lee Cope’s Legacy

Dr. Lee Cope moved to Jackson, Mississippi in 1980 and began his private practice, specializing in pediatric and special needs patients. He also served on the faculty at the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry for 35 years, where he enjoyed teaching and mentoring future dentists. Dr. Cope devoted much of his time and talents to those who were note only in need of dental care but also hope and an encouraging word. He was actively involved in mission work on the local, national, and international level. He participated in medical/dental mission trips to Honduras, Belize, Trinidad, and was very active in But God Ministries in Haiti. Dr. Cope’s love for children and their health is what made him tick. His attention to detail and the comfort of the patient, however young or however a special need might have been exhibited, was the foundation upon which Pediatric Dentistry was built.

Dr. Cope loved his profession as a pediatric dentist and always treated his staff and patients like family.  After 35 years in practice, he retired in 2017, after working alongside his daughter, Susan Fortenberry for 8 years. Dr. Cope passed away in January of 2024 after an 18 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. His life was all about ministry and missions and serving others, and he was always ready to tell someone about Jesus. Dr. Fortenberry and Dr. Holland are committed to carrying on the ministry and legacy of Dr. Lee Cope at Pediatric Dentistry, P.A., serving patients from all over Mississippi and beyond. It is our hope that through the ministry of dentistry, we will bring glory to God in all that we do.
